Crime in Odesa: Dangerous Incident with Gunfire

05 December 2025

A man faces up to seven years in prison for his offense.
Last week, late at night in the Kyiv district of Odesa, a local man, while walking through the courtyard of a high-rise building, fired a shot from a rubber bullet launcher. One female resident walking her dog admonished the stranger. The man approached the group and smashed the mirrors of two parked cars in the courtyard. He cursed and threatened bystanders with a gun, and when they tried to calm him down, he struck one woman in the head.
Police were called to the scene, confiscated the weapon with ammunition from the offender, and detained him. The man refused to explain his actions.
The pistol, ammunition, and spent cartridge were sent for forensic examination.
“After gathering sufficient evidence, we informed the suspect of his charges for hooliganism, which is a gross violation of public order motivated by blatant disrespect for society, accompanied by particular audacity, committed with the use of an item specially designed to inflict bodily harm. This crime is classified under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison. The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the right to bail set at 211,960 UAH. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing,” said Stanislav Rassokha, the senior investigator of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1.
