Court Sentences Driver for Traffic Violation

17 November 2025

The court has issued a ruling against the offender, imposing a sentence of imprisonment with a probationary period.
The incident occurred last year in September at night in one of the villages of the Saf’yanivska community in the Odesa region. During the investigation, it was established that a 36-year-old driver of a «SsangYong» car was inattentive and was driving above the speed limit. As a result, he failed to notice a 63-year-old cyclist ahead of him and collided with him.
The cyclist sustained fractures of the rib, vertebra, and arm. According to the forensic medical examination, the injuries sustained by the victim are classified as severe.
The police tested the driver for intoxication - he was sober.
The judicial examination of the seized vehicles showed that they were in good condition, and the car driver had the technical ability to prevent the traffic accident.
Based on the collected evidence, investigators charged the defendant with violating traffic safety rules, which led to severe bodily harm to the victim. The indictment under part 2 of article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was sent to court.
The court, having examined the case materials and considering the sincere remorse of the defendant, his admission of guilt, and the voluntary financial assistance provided to the victim, found the man guilty and imposed a sentence of three years of imprisonment with a one-year probationary period. The convicted person is required to periodically report to the authorized probation agency, inform about changes in residence and employment, and obtain permission for travel outside Ukraine.
The police once again urge drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules: do not exceed the speed limit, pay close attention to road conditions, and be careful when maneuvering. Additionally, motorcyclists are reminded to use reflective elements during dark hours to increase visibility on the road.
