Tragic Road Incident: Car Accident in Shevchenkove
A road incident occurred yesterday evening, November 13, in the village of Shevchenkove, Kiliya community, Odesa region.
Preliminary information indicates that a 30-year-old local man, driving a «VAZ» car, lost control while driving down O. Dubovy Street and struck two teenagers aged 16 and 17 who were walking along the roadside. He then fled the scene.
As a result of the accident, both teenagers sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.
A police officer, along with patrol inspectors from the Izmail police department, discovered the driver nearly a kilometer from the accident site. The suspect crashed through a neighbor's fence and drove onto his property.
The driver was unharmed, but a sobriety test revealed he was intoxicated, with alcohol levels exceeding the permissible limit by more than eight times.
Authorities have registered the case under part 1 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of traffic safety rules by individuals operating vehicles while intoxicated, resulting in moderate bodily injury).
The driver has been detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and the vehicle has been seized. Investigations are ongoing, and judicial examinations will be conducted.
Police once again urge road users to strictly adhere to traffic rules, especially drivers — under no circumstances should they drive while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or medications that impair attention and reaction speed.
