Tragic Accident on Odesa-Kyiv Highway

A tragic traffic accident took place yesterday, November 12, around 8:30 PM on the Odesa-Kyiv highway near the village of Malynivka. 

According to the investigative group of the local police department, the driver of a truck marked 'DAF', in an attempt to avoid hitting a man who suddenly ran across the road at an unauthorized location, struck him with the trailer. Following this, the pedestrian, whose identity is still being established, was hit by two more trucks traveling behind. The driver of the 'DAF', a 47-year-old resident of Poltava region, reported the accident to the police. 

As a result of the injuries sustained, the pedestrian died on the spot. The truck drivers were unharmed. Alcohol tests revealed they were sober. 

The investigators have entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This relates to violations of road safety rules or vehicle operation that resulted in the death of the victim.

A series of forensic examinations will be conducted as part of the investigation. All circumstances of the accident are being established.

We once again urge all road users to be vigilant, especially during dark hours and in low visibility conditions. Drivers are encouraged to closely monitor the road situation and adhere to a speed limit that allows for timely reactions, while pedestrians should utilize reflective elements or flashlights to be visible to drivers.
