Shortly after the incident, law enforcement located and arrested the suspect along with the stolen motorcycle. He is currently in custody.
The event occurred in one of the villages of the Mayaki community in the Odesa region. The victim, who was hospitalized, was discovered by medical personnel who alerted the police.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 28-year-old man attacked a 62-year-old woman as she rode her motorcycle to the store. He kicked her motorcycle, causing her to fall and lose consciousness. Seizing the opportunity, the assailant mounted the motorcycle and fled in an unknown direction.
Officers from the Odesa District Police Department No. 2 apprehended him 15 kilometers from the crime scene. The arrested individual is a native of Cherkasy region and is also wanted for another robbery. He arrived in the Odesa region only a week ago.
Police seized the motorcycle as evidence. The suspect claimed he simply wanted to take a ride on it.
Investigator Denys Isayev stated that based on collected evidence, the suspect faces charges of unlawful appropriation of a vehicle with violence. Under the law, the maximum penalty for this crime can reach 12 years of imprisonment.
The court granted the police's request to impose custody as a preventive measure. The investigation is ongoing.
