Justice for Victims: Verdict in Rape Case

20 October 2025

In Odesa, a first-instance court has convicted a 30-year-old man for crimes against his stepdaughter. He received a ten-year prison sentence and a three-year ban on contact with children.
A 48-year-old woman reported to the police that her 14-year-old daughter disclosed abuse by her partner.
Following the initiation of criminal proceedings, investigators learned that the man had raped the minor when his partner was not home.
The perpetrator was detained, and the court granted a request for pre-trial detention without bail.
Authorities also found that he had previously abused the girl when she was 12, using money to ensure her silence.

The investigation included forensic examinations and evidence collection, leading to charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • Part 4 of Article 152 (rape of a person under fourteen, regardless of consent);
  • Part 2 of Article 155 (committing sexual acts by a family member with a person under sixteen).

The indictment was forwarded to the court. The Peresyp District Court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to ten years in prison, along with a restriction on engaging in activities involving children for three years.
The Peresyp District Prosecutor's Office supported the prosecution during the proceedings.
The verdict can be appealed and takes effect after the appeal period ends, unless an appeal is filed.
