Court Sentences for Illegal Possession of Ammunition in Odesa Region

20 October 2025

Two men from the Odesa region have been sentenced for violating laws related to ammunition. One received four years in prison with a probationary term, while the other got three years and one month.
The offenders, aged 50 and 41, were apprehended by the police during an operational procedure. During searches, 117 and 53 rounds were seized from them, respectively. Experts confirmed that these rounds were intended for rifled firearms.
The men claimed they found the ammunition at a dump and stored it at home without permission.
Investigators charged them under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for illegal acquisition and possession of ammunition.
One defendant admitted his guilt and entered into a plea agreement with the prosecutor. The court found both guilty and issued sentences.
The verdict for the resident of Balta includes four years with a probation period of a year and a half, during which he must regularly report to probation authorities.
The second defendant, who was already on probation, received three years and one month in prison.
The physical evidence will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the law, individuals who voluntarily surrender firearms are exempt from criminal liability.
We remind that a campaign for weapon declaration is ongoing in Ukraine, and citizens must report any illegally stored firearms.
