Arsonists Target Ukrainian Railways in Odesa Region
In the Odesa region, law enforcement uncovered a group of youths who, under the direction of Russian intelligence agencies, set fire to a facility belonging to Ukrainian Railways. The perpetrators were promised monetary rewards for their criminal activities. They have been arrested and face significant prison time.
The operation to identify and apprehend the arsonists was conducted by officers from the criminal investigation and analysis departments of the National Police of Ukraine in the Odesa region, alongside operatives from the Berezivsky district police and SBU officials.
Authorities discovered that a 20-year-old resident of Berezivsky district, looking for extra income online, received an offer from an unidentified individual to set fire to relay cabinets for financial compensation. He involved his 18-year-old friend in the illegal activity. They divided their roles: one was to carry out the arson, while the other filmed it on his mobile phone for reporting to the client. Later, they chose a relay cabinet on the outskirts of a village in the Rozdilna district, poured gasoline on it, and set it ablaze.
Currently, SBU investigators have initiated a preliminary investigation and have charged the suspects with attempted sabotage, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy under martial law as per part 2 of Article 113 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The suspects are in custody. The penalty for this crime is up to 15 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment with asset confiscation.
