Teenager Sets Car on Fire for Cash: Incident Details
A young girl took a risky action, lured by an offer from an unknown person for money. She was unaware of the consequences.
The incident occurred in the evening in a private sector of Odesa. The vehicle owner, a 54-year-old man, noticed smoke and extinguished the flames quickly, after which he reported it to the police. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The police found that the girl had received an offer via a messenger to set a vehicle on fire for payment. She agreed and located the car that needed to be burned. After receiving 300 hryvnias, she bought gasoline, doused the hood, and ignited it. She filmed the arson and sent the video to her client. However, the client was dissatisfied with the footage and sent her back to redo it, where she was eventually caught. She never received her reward.
The head of the police investigation department stated that the girl caused significant damage to the vehicle. The amount of damages is currently being determined.
Police confiscated material evidence from the scene, including a bottle of flammable liquid and a phone with correspondence.
"We have gathered enough evidence and notified the girl of suspicion under Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - intentional damage to another's property by arson. This can lead to up to ten years in prison. We are deciding on a preventive measure," she added.
The investigation is ongoing. Police urge citizens to be cautious in social media interactions, especially regarding criminal offers. Parents are also asked to monitor their children and explain the consequences of their actions.
