Traffic Incident on Odesa – Reni Route: New Case Developments

11 October 2025

Investigators have officially charged the driver and forwarded the case materials to court. The man faces imprisonment along with restrictions on driving privileges.
Recall that the incident occurred in July this year in the evening on the Odesa – Reni highway near Tatabunar.
During the preliminary investigation, it was established that a 55-year-old resident of the Rozdilna district, while driving a passenger bus on the Kilia – Odesa route, was inattentive, did not maintain a safe speed, and caused the bus to veer off the road and overturn.
In addition to the driver, there were five other passengers on the bus. As a result of the accident, only a 49-year-old passenger sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital with a moderate injury in the form of a fractured arm.
The driver was tested for intoxication – he was sober.
“Having gathered enough evidence, including the conclusions from several forensic examinations, investigators charged the driver with violating traffic safety rules, resulting in moderate bodily harm to the victim. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the indictment under part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been sent to court. The maximum penalty provided by this article is imprisonment for up to three years, along with a ban on driving for the same period,” commented Edward Kolomiiets, head of Police Station No. 2 of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Police.
The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Prosecutor's Office will support the prosecution in court, under whose procedural guidance the investigation was conducted.
Police once again urge drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules. Do not exceed the speed limit and be cautious, paying close attention to road conditions.
