Neighbor Dispute Results in Serious Injuries
Investigators have brought charges against a suspect for causing serious bodily harm and have sent the indictment to court. The offender faces up to eight years in prison.
The incident occurred in July during the day in the Khadzhybey district of Odesa. A 57-year-old local man approached his home when a 28-year-old neighbor sitting on a nearby bench insulted him. A conflict ensued, during which the older man decided to retaliate against the younger: he ran home for a knife and, upon returning, struck his opponent several times.
Witnesses called for an ambulance for the victim. Medical personnel hospitalized him and informed the police. According to the forensic medical examination, the man sustained both minor and serious injuries, including stab wounds to the chest, shoulder, and wrist, as well as penetrating injuries to the chest and abdominal cavity with damage to the intestine.
Investigators detained the offender and seized the knife, which was sent for examination. Specialists confirmed that it was the instrument of the crime. The perpetrator explained his actions were due to outrage over the neighbor's insults.
Upon the police's request, the court imposed a preventive measure of detention.
“Based on the results of the pre-trial investigation and the evidence collected, we charged the suspect under Part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, for intentionally causing serious bodily harm, which is dangerous to life at the time of infliction. The indictment has been sent to court. The man faces up to eight years in prison,” said investigator Larysa Sokolova from the Odesa District Police Department No. 1
The pre-trial investigation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Khadzhybey District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa.
