Fraudulent Marriages Exposed: Odesa Woman Under Investigation

29 September 2025

Agents from the State Bureau of Investigations, with the assistance of the Border Guard Service, uncovered a woman from Odesa who organized fraudulent marriages for military personnel in exchange for money, allowing them to leave service and travel abroad. This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.
The woman, who is a person with a disability of the second group, had repeatedly married military personnel. They took advantage of her status to secure discharge from service and exit the country. After a brief period together, she would return to Ukraine and file for divorce.
One border guard officer decided to become the third husband of the scam artist, capitalizing on her “successful case.” After their wedding, he arranged for care of his wife and left the military.
The newlyweds were apprehended by investigators at the border crossing while attempting to leave the country.
Reports indicate that such a fraudulent marriage cost military personnel $10,000.
Currently, the couple has been charged with evading military service (part 4 of Article 409 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The issue of preventive measures is being decided. The article provides for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
The Odesa Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the defense sector is overseeing the proceedings.
