Court to Hear Extortion Case in Odesa Region
The prosecutors of the Odesa District Prosecutor's Office have submitted an indictment to the court concerning three individuals for extortion with threats of violence, committed by a group of individuals (Part 4, Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
In March of this year, three men organized a 'black business' and began to blackmail a resident of Odessa via messenger. They claimed he owed them $20,000, although he actually had no debts.
Their demands were accompanied by threats of severe violence.
Later, at a restaurant on Fontanska Road, the offenders demanded the immediate payment of money. After relentless threats, the victim agreed to hand over part of the amount – $1,500. The money was kept with an acquaintance, and they arranged to transfer it using a predetermined code word.
The transfer took place at the 'Knyzhka' market, after which law enforcement detained the three extortionists.
The pre-trial investigation in this criminal case was conducted by the local police department. Operational support was provided by the Security Service of Ukraine in the Odessa region.
