An accident took place yesterday, September 17, in the evening on Sichovyh Striltsiv Street in Izmail.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 47-year-old driver of a passenger vehicle struck two men aged 48 and 37 who were crossing the road. The injured pedestrians were taken to the hospital by ambulance with various injuries.
The driver showed signs of intoxication, and biological samples were taken for confirmation.
According to Fedir Chiflikliy, Deputy Head of the Investigative Department of the Izmail District Police, investigators recorded information in the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations regarding possible violations under Part 2 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article qualifies for violations of traffic safety rules that result in severe bodily harm.
The driver was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The issue of notifying him of the suspicion and choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved.
As part of the proceedings, a series of judicial examinations will be conducted. The investigation is ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Izmail District Prosecutor's Office, and all circumstances of the accident are being established.

The police urge all road users to adhere to traffic regulations. Drivers are requested not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs and to pay close attention to the traffic situation. Pedestrians are reminded to cross the road at pedestrian crossings and to use reflectors or flashlights in the dark.
