Fatal Incident at the Border: Investigation Details
DBR officials have launched a criminal investigation into the death of an individual who attempted to illegally cross the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in the Odesa region.
According to preliminary reports, on September 1 at around 6 PM, border patrol noticed two men climbing over barriers and heading toward Moldova. They ignored lawful orders from law enforcement to stop. During the pursuit, border guards fired several warning shots in their direction. Eventually, the body of one of the fugitives was found with a gunshot wound that was fatal. The other man was detained at the scene.
The deceased was identified as a 23-year-old from Kharkiv, who had a passport for international travel and personal belongings.
Within the framework of the registered criminal case under part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, DBR investigators promptly examined the scene, seized the personal items of the deceased, and the firearm used in the incident. Border guards and witnesses have been interrogated.
Investigative actions are ongoing, and all circumstances of the tragedy are being established.
The prosecutorial supervision is carried out by the Odesa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the field of defense of the Southern region.
