Arrest of a Woman for Planning a Terrorist Attack in Izmail
Law enforcement officials have apprehended a woman involved in planning a terrorist attack in Izmail. She, lured by the promise of a monetary reward, created several explosive devices intended to harm individuals. One device resulted in injuries to a local man. The suspect faces up to 12 years in prison.
According to the investigation, a 28-year-old woman was looking for a side job through a messenger app, where she was recruited by unknown individuals. After being promised $800, she received instructions on making explosives.
To execute her plan, she rented an apartment where she assembled the explosives from components bought at local stores. Once ready, she, following her handler's instructions, placed the first device near a residential building, but it failed to detonate. Later, she brought in a second device, which exploded when approached by a local resident, injuring him. The man was hospitalized but was released home after treatment.
Police quickly identified and arrested the perpetrator. Evidence was seized from the scene.
The suspect was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, and charges are being prepared under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – terrorist act. The penalty includes up to 12 years of imprisonment with possible confiscation of property.
Investigative actions are ongoing under the supervision of the Izmail district prosecutor's office.
