Investigation Insights: New Developments in the Assassination Attempt on MP

01 September 2025

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies, including the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Office of the Prosecutor General, suspect that Russian intelligence services may be involved in the assassination attempt on MP Andriy Parubiy. This information was obtained during preliminary investigative actions with the arrested perpetrator.

«The crime exhibits signs of being contracted. We have operational information indicating possible involvement of Russian intelligence in organizing this murder. We are collaborating with our law enforcement colleagues to identify all those connected to this heinous act, validate sources of information, and gather evidence,» stated Vadym Onyshchenko, head of the SBU in the Lviv region.

It is worth noting that on the night of August 31 to September 1, law enforcement detained a man suspected of murdering MP Andriy Parubiy. Thanks to coordinated actions, they identified the suspect within 24 hours of the attack.

The suspect's actions have been classified under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: part 1 of article 115 (premeditated murder) and part 1 of article 263 (illegal handling of weapons). The investigation and arrest have been under the personal control of President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Investigative actions are ongoing.

Law enforcement will provide updates regarding the investigation and any confirmed facts related to the crime.
