Driver Sent to Court for Injuring Pedestrian in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi
A driver from Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi has been sent to court after injuring an elderly woman on the sidewalk. The incident occurred in early March on Buhazska Street. During the investigation, it was determined that a 50-year-old local man, driving a «Subaru Forester», was inattentive and veered off the road onto the sidewalk, hitting a 74-year-old woman. The pedestrian was hospitalized with severe head injuries and broken legs. The driver was unharmed. A breathalyzer test showed he was sober. At the request of the police, the court imposed a night house arrest on the man during the investigation.
According to Pavlo Bobchynskyi, head of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district police department, investigators gathered enough evidence, including conclusions from various forensic examinations, to charge the suspect with violating traffic safety rules, resulting in serious bodily harm to the victim. Under part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the offender faces up to eight years in prison and a driving ban for up to three years, or without such a ban.
The investigation is completed, and the indictment has been sent to court for consideration. The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district prosecutor's office will support the prosecution, having overseen the investigation. Law enforcement authorities once again urge drivers to adhere strictly to traffic rules. Remember, drivers must carefully monitor the traffic situation and respond appropriately to changes.
