Taxi Driver Robbed in Odesa: Suspect Arrested

The suspect has been charged with a crime that could result in up to 12 years of imprisonment.
The incident occurred on the morning of August 20 in the Kyiv district of Odesa, where a 39-year-old taxi driver had dropped off a passenger. While waiting for his next order, an unknown man wearing glasses and a mask burst into the vehicle, threatening the driver with a gun and demanding that he leave the car immediately.
The perpetrator then drove off in the taxi, prompting the victim to report the incident to the police.
Following a series of investigative measures, officers from the criminal investigation department and criminal analysis of the Odesa regional police, along with operatives and detectives from the local police unit, managed to locate and arrest the suspect, a 30-year-old local resident.
He abandoned the stolen vehicle not far from the crime scene when he encountered technical difficulties.
Investigators seized items used by the criminal to conceal his identity, as well as a gun resembling a gas pistol, which will undergo examination, and other items relevant to the investigation.
Having gathered sufficient evidence, the police charged the suspect with attempted illegal seizure of a vehicle, accompanied by threats of violence dangerous to the life and health of the victim. According to part 3 of Article 289 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the maximum penalty for this crime is up to twelve years of imprisonment, with or without property confiscation.
The suspect is currently in a temporary detention facility, and a decision is being made regarding the choice of preventive measure.
During the ongoing pre-trial investigation, supervised by the Kyiv District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa, several judicial examinations will be conducted to determine all circumstances of the crime, including the motive.
