Trial in Odesa: Agents Face Life Imprisonment for Treason

19 August 2025

In Odesa, two men will stand trial for treason and sabotage. The Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office has sent an indictment to the court against these individuals, accused of committing crimes related to treason, sabotage, intentional damage to critical infrastructure, and illegal possession of weapons (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 2 of Article 111, Part 2 of Article 113, Part 2 of Article 194-1, Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). It is known that one of them held pro-Russian views and was dissatisfied with the country's political course. In 2022, he voluntarily contacted a representative of the Russian special services. The accused involved an acquaintance in criminal activities. Relocating from Kyiv, they rented apartments on Olhievska and Hoholya Streets, where they established observation points. The men systematically collected intelligence data on military units, engineering fortifications, and the number of weapons in the region. They created photo and video reports and marked coordinates on maps using online services. In addition to reconnaissance, the agents produced incendiary mixtures which they later used to set fire to transformer booths in the area. During searches at their residence, law enforcement seized explosive substances. The accused are currently in custody without the right to bail. They face life imprisonment with asset confiscation.

The pre-trial investigation was conducted by investigators from the SBU in the Odesa region.

Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
