Detention of Pro-Kremlin Agitators: New Insights from Odessa
The Security Service of Ukraine has detained two individuals in Odessa who were actively promoting pro-Kremlin propaganda. The detainees spread information justifying Russia's aggression in Ukraine and praising Russian soldiers.
Among those detained is a priest of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), who during conversations with parishioners glorified the occupiers and insulted the religious beliefs of followers from other denominations. He maintained connections with a former MP from the 'Party of Regions' who is already under suspicion for treason and is currently hiding in Russia. Additionally, he was in contact with a collaborator who fled to Russia in 2014 and announced the creation of a fake state.
This priest, along with his daughter, took photographs in front of famous locations in Odessa holding blank sheets of paper, which were later used by Russian propagandists to fabricate fake news.
Another detainee is a proto-deacon who justified Russian shelling of civilian infrastructure in his sermons. Expert analyses conducted by the SBU confirmed their involvement in information activities benefiting the aggressor.
Both detainees face up to eight years in prison with the possibility of asset confiscation. The operation was conducted under the supervision of the regional prosecutor's office.
