Authorities are investigating the circumstances of a traffic accident in the Izmail district, which resulted in an injured cyclist. The incident took place yesterday, August 6, around 2 PM in the Reni community.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 68-year-old driver of a «Skoda Octavia» was overtaking a 62-year-old cyclist who was traveling in the same direction and accidentally struck him with the vehicle's trailer. The cyclist was hospitalized at Izmail City Hospital with a closed head injury.

A sobriety test for the driver revealed that he was sober. A team of investigators from the local police department was at the scene.

Investigators have entered information into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which concerns violations of road safety rules that led to moderate bodily harm to the victim.

As part of the proceedings, several forensic examinations will be conducted. The vehicles involved have been seized. The investigation is ongoing.

The police once again urge drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules and to pay close attention to the road conditions.
