Arrest of Car Arsonist in Odesa
Odesa law enforcement has apprehended an individual responsible for setting vehicles ablaze in the Primorsky district. After committing the crime, he fled to Kryvyi Rih but was located by the police and charged. The man faces up to 10 years of imprisonment.
A few weeks prior, two residents of Odesa, aged 55 and 23, reported to the police about their vehicles, a «Mercedes-Benz» and a «BMW», being damaged by fire while parked.
As a result of investigative efforts, officers from police department No. 5 of the Odesa district police identified a 22-year-old resident of Kryvyi Rih as the suspect.
The young man ignited a bottle filled with a flammable substance and threw it at the «Mercedes-Benz». The fire spread to the nearby «BMW». Fortunately, no one was injured, and the flames extinguished themselves, causing only external damage to the cars.
“It has been established that the suspect drove to Odesa in his vehicle to commit the crime and then returned home. The police tracked him down, and during sanctioned searches, they seized material evidence, including the vehicle. After gathering sufficient evidence, we informed the suspect of charges under part 2 of article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – intentional damage to someone else's property by arson. The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention with the right to bail set at 242,240 UAH. The investigation continues under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa. All circumstances, motives of the crime, and the amount of damages are being established,” - reported Alona Kumahorodskaya, deputy head of the investigative department.
