The perpetrator repeatedly struck his wife with a sharp object resembling an awl. The suspect has been detained in accordance with legal procedures and faces up to eight years of imprisonment.
The incident took place a few days ago in the Khadzhybei district, near the victim's workplace. The 67-year-old man arrived by car to his 48-year-old wife, with whom he has not been living due to an argument, intending to reconcile. During their conversation, a conflict arose – the woman refused to get into her husband's car, after which he pulled out an awl and stabbed her twice in the back and chest.
Bystanders called an ambulance. Medics hospitalized her with a penetrating wound and pneumothorax, and also notified the police. Officers arrested the offender near the scene.
Investigators seized the awl as evidence, which will be sent for examination.
According to investigator Svitlana Mohiliak, after gathering sufficient evidence, the suspect was charged with intentional serious bodily harm under Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the sanction, this crime is punishable by up to eight years in prison.
Currently, the court has chosen a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the right to post bail of 242,240 hryvnias.
Investigative actions are ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Malinovskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa.
