Arrest for Throwing a Grenade into a Crowd
Authorities have arrested a resident of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district who threw a training grenade at a crowd. Fortunately, no one was harmed as a result of his actions. The man faces hooliganism charges, which could lead to fines or imprisonment.
The incident occurred in April in a village of the Shabivska community, reported by a local resident to the emergency line 102.
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that a 55-year-old driver was unhappy with a group of strangers repairing their car on the roadside. He stopped, initiated an argument, and, retrieving a grenade from under his driver’s seat, threw it towards the people before fleeing the scene.
Upon landing, the grenade produced a sound effect, but none of the bystanders were harmed.
The investigative team collected grenade fragments for examination, confirming that it was a training grenade, not classified as a combat weapon.
The offender was identified and apprehended within an hour on the same day.
According to Pavlo Bobchynskyi, head of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi police department, sufficient evidence was gathered to bring charges against the individual for hooliganism. Under part 1 of article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this offense carries a fine up to 34,000 UAH or probation up to five years, or imprisonment for the same duration.
The preliminary investigation is complete, and the indictment has been sent to court. The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district prosecutor’s office will support the prosecution in court.
