Sentencing for Drug Offenses in Odesa Region

14 July 2025

A 36-year-old resident of the Podilskyi district in the Odesa region has received a court sentence for drug-related crimes. The man will spend over six years behind bars, and his property will be confiscated.

Last year, law enforcement documented two instances of drug sales by the man, who was obtaining narcotic substances through a doctor's prescription. An expert analysis revealed that 11 pills he sold contained methadone, a controlled substance.

During a search of his home, investigators seized similar medical preparations and a package of cannabis he had produced from wild hemp for personal use, along with a homemade device for consuming narcotics infused with cannabis extract. The expert findings confirmed the narcotic nature of these substances.

Investigators established that the individual already had a criminal record for illegal production and storage of cannabis under part 1 of article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and he was serving a probation period of one year.

At the request of law enforcement, the court chose a detention measure for the suspect during the pre-trial investigation.

After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the suspect with illegal drug trafficking and illegal acquisition, production, and storage of narcotic substances without intent to sell, specifically as a repeat offender. These crimes are classified under part 2 of article 307 and part 2 of article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Thanks to the work of police who collected irrefutable evidence of the suspect's guilt, he signed a plea agreement with the prosecutor, which, along with the indictment, was submitted to the court.

The court found the defendant guilty, approved the plea agreement, and imposed a sentence of six years and one month in prison with property confiscation, partially joining the unserved portion of the previous sentence.

The state prosecution was represented by the Podilsk District Prosecutor's Office in court.
