11 February 2025

In Odesa, law enforcement uncovered a man involved in the murder of a friend. He fatally assaulted him with a bottle, feet, and fists over suspicion of wallet theft. The suspect has been charged and a preventive measure has been chosen. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police.

Recently, near a high-rise building on Heroes of Krut Street, a local resident found a bloodied body and called the police. An investigative team and a mobile DNA laboratory were dispatched to the scene. Within half an hour, the police established that a 37-year-old man from the Kyiv district, previously convicted for theft, was connected to the incident.

"The police discovered that the night before, the suspect and his 43-year-old acquaintance had been consuming alcoholic beverages in a courtyard between the buildings. During their drunken gathering, the younger man could not find his wallet and began to accuse the older one of stealing it. In the course of the conflict, he fatally struck him with a glass bottle, feet, and fists.

The body of the deceased was sent for forensic examination to determine the cause of death, while the perpetrator was located nearby and arrested accordingly. The suspect was found with a wallet he did not notice in his pocket, which he believed was stolen, along with bloodied clothing and other items of significance for the investigation," the statement read.

Investigators charged the detained man with intentional murder. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 15 years. At the request of investigators, the court chose a preventive measure of detention.
