Mother and Daughter Arrested for Arson in Odesa

10 July 2025

A shocking criminal case has emerged in Odesa involving a mother and her 13-year-old daughter. Reports indicate that the girl was recruited by Russian security services via a messaging app, with her handler promising monetary rewards for carrying out arsons.

The girl was tasked with setting fire to a relay cabinet of the Odesa railway, a mission she undertook, although the fire caused minimal damage. Later, upon receiving another assignment, she involved her mother, who instead of refusing to participate, agreed to commit the crime. Together, they set fire to a military vehicle used for transporting the wounded.

Law enforcement officials have gathered evidence from the crime scenes and the family's apartment. Both individuals face serious charges under Ukrainian criminal law for their actions.

The girl has been taken into custody by child protection services, while her mother has been detained and informed of her charges. She faces up to eight years in prison for her actions.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities urge the youth to resist provocations from aggressors.
