Court Proceedings on Domestic Violence in Odesa Region

08 July 2025

The courts have received indictments against offenders involved in domestic violence cases. One of the defendants has already been sentenced.

A 55-year-old man from the Odesa district, abusing alcohol, repeatedly humiliated his 40-year-old wife. The victim reported to the police, who placed him on record and issued reports under Article 173-2 of the Code of Ukraine on administrative offenses.

A 31-year-old man from the Izmail district, convicted of psychological violence against his 24-year-old wife, received two years of probation and was directed to an abuser program.

However, the police found that neither man learned their lesson. The older continued to inflict psychological torment, and the younger refused the abuser program. Consequently, criminal proceedings were initiated.

During the pre-trial investigations, conducted under the supervision of the prosecutors, the police gathered sufficient evidence and brought charges. The first was charged with intentional systematic domestic violence, while the second was charged with evading the program.

The indictments have been sent to court. The younger defendant has already been sentenced to three years of probation. He is obligated to report periodically to the probation authority and inform them of any changes in his life.

Materials concerning the other defendant are still under court review. He faces penalties for domestic violence.

The police urge citizens not to tolerate violence. If you are a victim, contact the police or call the hotline at 102. Consultations and support for victims are available through the government hotline at 1547 and 116-123. Information can also be accessed via the Ministry of Internal Affairs chatbot.
