Arrest of Corrupt Official in Odesa Region
Law enforcement in the Odesa region arrested an official attempting to extort a bribe for reserving cemetery plots. The suspect received $1500 for two burial sites. He has been charged, and faces up to 10 years in prison for his actions.
Employees of the Strategic Investigations Department uncovered the corrupt activities of the cemetery manager during a joint operation with the police. It was determined that in June, a resident of Odesa approached the official to reserve two plots for his relatives, to which the official demanded $1500.
The police promptly arrested him at his workplace while receiving the bribe.
Based on sufficient evidence, police investigators initiated criminal proceedings under part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court has placed the suspect in custody with the option for bail.
The suspect faces up to 10 years of imprisonment, with a prohibition on holding certain positions for up to three years and confiscation of property.
The investigation continues under the supervision of the local prosecutor's office.
