Fatal Family Conflict in Odesa Region
A 52-year-old woman in the Odesa region has been sentenced for murdering her son during a family argument.
She will spend the next eight years in prison.
The incident occurred last September in a village within the Kuyalnytsia community during a dinner where the family consumed alcohol. A dispute arose at the table, during which the 31-year-old son began to insult his mother, leading her to stab him in the chest with a knife. He died before the ambulance arrived.
Authorities collected the murder weapon, biological samples, and other evidence from the crime scene, which were sent for forensic analysis.
The woman was detained, and the court ordered her to be held in custody during the investigation.
A forensic medical examination concluded that the cause of death was acute blood loss due to a penetrating stab wound to the chest. A psychiatric evaluation indicated that the woman was capable of understanding her actions at the time of the crime.
Based on the collected evidence, the woman was charged with intentional homicide, and the case was forwarded to court.
The court, considering all circumstances and the defendant's genuine remorse, found her guilty and imposed a sentence of eight years in prison.
The state prosecution was represented by the Podilskyi District Prosecutor's Office.
