Arrest Made in the Murder of Elderly Woman: Investigation Updates
Law enforcement swiftly identified a woman suspected of murdering an elderly resident of the Odessa region. The perpetrator was located in another region. Investigators have officially charged her with the crime. She faces up to 15 years in prison for her actions.
Police received a report from a resident of Odessa who visited his 74-year-old sister in a village of the Fontanskaya community and found her lifeless, lying in blood.
During initial investigative actions, authorities discovered that the day before, the deceased had been visited by a 32-year-old neighbor who was helping with household chores. A domestic dispute arose between the women, during which the guest grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the hostess. The victim died at the scene from her injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that the cause of death was a penetrating stab wound to the neck. The exact cause will be determined by a forensic medical examination.
The search for the offender involved detectives from the criminal investigation department, investigators, and canine units from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odessa region, along with officers from police station No. 4 of the Odessa district police department No. 2. Thanks to their efforts, police found the suspect hiding in another region.
The police arrested the woman in accordance with legal procedures. She confessed to the crime.
“After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged her with intentional murder under part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This crime carries a penalty of up to 15 years of imprisonment. The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention without the right to bail,” commented the head of the territorial police unit, Yevhen Orlov.
Investigative actions are ongoing under the supervision of the Dobroslav district prosecutor's office.
