Arson Case: Woman Charged in House Fire
A woman has been charged and a preventive measure has been set. She faces a significant prison sentence.
The incident occurred in May in the Khadzhybei district. Bystanders noticed the fire in a house and promptly called firefighters, who extinguished the blaze.
During the preliminary investigation, police discovered that a 38-year-old local resident had set fire to the home of a 37-year-old man. She confessed that she had been in a relationship with the Odessa resident and felt wronged. After yet another argument, she decided to take revenge. She entered his home through an open window, ignited a blanket on the bed, and fled the scene.
Fortunately, no one was injured since the house was undergoing renovations and was unoccupied. However, the fire destroyed property inside, including load-bearing structures. The extent of the damage will be determined through an expert assessment.
“We have gathered sufficient evidence and charged the individual under part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for the intentional destruction of someone else’s property by arson, resulting in significant property damage. According to current legislation, the offender faces up to 10 years in prison. The court has placed her under night house arrest. The preliminary investigation is ongoing. Based on its results, we will provide a final legal qualification of the woman’s actions. The case is supervised by the Malinovsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odessa,” stated investigator Vladislav Dekhtyruk.
