Justice Served: Verdict in Kidnapping Case in Odessa
A verdict has been rendered in Odessa against five members of an organized crime group involved in the kidnapping and extortion of 1 million dollars.
According to prosecutors, in March 2021, the criminals kidnapped the son of business owners in Odessa. The victim was held against his will while they demanded a hefty ransom from his family.
Eventually, the kidnapped individual was transported to Kyiv, where law enforcement apprehended the gang and rescued the hostage.
Three defendants received 10 years of imprisonment each, while two others were sentenced to 8 years along with property confiscation. They were convicted for unlawful deprivation of liberty, kidnapping, and extortion (Part 3 of Article 27, Part 3 of Article 28, Part 3 of Article 146, Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
All members of the criminal group were held in custody until the verdict was announced.
