Arrest of a 20-Year-Old for Organizing Illegal Migration
A 20-year-old resident of Rozdilna district has been arrested and charged, facing significant prison time.
The operational staff of the migration police and investigators from the Odessa regional police department, in collaboration with the internal security service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, conducted measures to expose the illicit activities.
Authorities discovered that the young man had established a scheme for the illegal transportation of men across the Ukrainian-Moldovan border outside of official crossing points. After finding a «client», he promised to transport him to the border area where no border guards would be present.
The suspect received a deposit of $600 from a conscript and provided him with details of the route they were to take together. The remaining amount of $1400 was to be paid just before crossing the border.
They began their journey by train, then by taxi, and on foot. However, they were intercepted by law enforcement during the crossing of a forest area.
After gathering sufficient evidence, investigators charged the suspect with organizing illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine. According to part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by up to nine years in prison and confiscation of property. The court has chosen pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.
Investigative actions are ongoing under the procedural guidance of the Odessa Specialized Prosecutor's Office in the defense sector.
