Arrest of Offenders: Details of the Incident in Odesa
Odesa police apprehended an offender in Kyiv, where he fled immediately after committing the crime. The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The suspect faces imprisonment.
Earlier this year, a 26-year-old resident of Odesa reported to the police that unknown individuals tried to set fire to the entrance door of his apartment in the Primorsky district. During the preliminary investigation, it was established that the crime was committed by a 28-year-old resident of Kyiv together with a 30-year-old accomplice, whose materials have been allocated to a separate proceeding.
According to the investigation, the accomplices arrived in Odesa by car, went to the second floor of an apartment building, poured a flammable liquid on the entrance door, set it on fire, and fled.
Fortunately, no one was harmed as the fire was extinguished quickly.
The police located the younger offender in the capital and apprehended him. He provided no explanations regarding his actions. The court imposed a preventive measure of detention with the possibility of bail set at 242,240 hryvnias, which he did not utilize.
«Having gathered sufficient evidence, we charged the detainee with the completed attempt of intentional damage to another's property by arson, committed in conspiracy by a group of individuals. Under the sanctions of part 2 of article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the maximum penalty for this crime is 10 years of imprisonment. The indictment has been sent to the court. The second suspect has been informed in absentia of suspicion for committing a similar crime. He has been declared wanted, and measures are being taken to apprehend him,» stated the head of the investigative unit of the territorial police, Pavlo Havryshko.
Measures were conducted by investigators and operatives of police station No. 1 of Odesa district police department No. 1 together with employees of the criminal investigation and criminal analysis departments of the regional police, under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky district prosecutor's office in Odesa.
