Completion of Investigation into Assault Case in Odesa
Investigators have concluded the pre-trial investigation regarding the perpetrators who assaulted victims and seized their belongings. The offenders face a lengthy prison sentence with property confiscation.
The incident occurred in March in the Primorsky district. Late at night, the assailants attacked a 22-year-old woman, beating her and stealing her phone, a bag with a charger, passport, wallet with cash, and other personal items. Later, when the victim returned with her 34-year-old husband to search for the attackers, they beat him unconscious, taking his money, phone, and wedding ring.
In total, the attackers seized property worth over 36 thousand hryvnias.
The couple sought medical assistance and reported the incident to the police. According to forensic medical examination, the victims sustained minor injuries, including closed fractures of the nasal bones, bruises, and abrasions.
Officers from the police department No. 2 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1, during investigative measures, identified that the crime was committed by two brothers, aged 22 and 19, from the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district. They were wanted by the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Court for theft and had been hiding in rented apartments in Odesa.
The investigators located the offenders and during searches at their residences seized part of the stolen property. Upon the police's request, the court ordered the young men to be held in custody.
«During the pre-trial investigation, conducted under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa, we gathered sufficient evidence and charged the suspects under part 4 of article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — assault with the intent to seize someone else's property, combined with violence dangerous to the health of the victim, and the threat of such violence, premeditated by a group of individuals during martial law. The younger suspect was additionally charged under part 3 of article 357 of the Criminal Code for illegally acquiring a passport. The offenders face up to 15 years of imprisonment with property confiscation. The indictment has been sent to court,» said senior investigator Anzhela Panteleichuk.
