Traffic Altercation Leads to Shooting Incident
As a result of the driver's unlawful actions, a person was injured. Investigators have charged the offender. He faces up to seven years in prison.
The incident occurred on the evening of May 26 at the intersection of Nina Strokata and Preobrazhenska streets. Police found that a 39-year-old local resident was crossing the road when a vehicle driven by a 31-year-old man nearly hit him. The agitated pedestrian kicked the car, and the driver, stopping a few meters away, shot the man in the chest with a traumatic weapon before driving off.
Bystanders called an ambulance for the victim. Medics hospitalized him with a non-penetrating injury to the chest and notified the police.
Following a series of operational measures, police located the vehicle and apprehended the shooter. They seized a pistol designed for rubber bullets with 12 cartridges. Additionally, investigators collected a spent casing and the bullet that struck the victim as evidence. All items have been sent for examination.
Based on the obtained evidence, the police department's investigators charged the suspect with hooliganism—an egregious violation of public order motivated by clear disrespect for society, committed with particular audacity using an object specially adapted for causing bodily harm. According to Article 296, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, this crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to seven years.
The offender was detained in accordance with the law. The court has chosen to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail set at 242,240 UAH.
The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odessa.
