Armed Robbery in Primorsky District: Suspect Arrested

28 May 2025

A robbery occurred in the Primorsky District of the city, where a perpetrator threatened local residents with a knife and unlawfully took their belongings. Law enforcement has completed the investigation and forwarded the case to court. The offender could face a lengthy prison sentence.

The incident took place late last year during the curfew, for which there is currently no legal responsibility.

The criminal accessed an annex near a residential building, climbed onto the balcony of a second-floor apartment, and entered through an unlocked door. While rummaging through the home, he woke the homeowners and threatened them with their own kitchen knife, stealing three mobile phones, a wallet with cash, and men’s shoes. Having stolen property worth nearly 20,000 hryvnias, he fled the scene.

The victims sought assistance from the police. Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Odesa Regional Police, in collaboration with staff from Police Station No. 2, conducted a series of operational search measures and identified and located the offender within hours. The suspect is a 26-year-old unemployed man, previously convicted for thefts and robberies, who was temporarily living in Odesa. The knife, mobile phones, wallet, and shoes were seized as evidence. The suspect spent several hundred hryvnias from the wallet for personal needs. He was detained in accordance with legal procedures, and the court imposed a preventive measure of detention.

Investigator Dmytro Hrechko noted that sufficient evidence was gathered during the investigation, leading to charges being filed against the suspect under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – robbery with the intent to seize someone else's property, combined with threats of violence dangerous to the life of the victim, with unlawful entry into a dwelling during martial law. The pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the indictment has been sent to court. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years in prison with property confiscation.
