Woman Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Odesa Region
The suspect faces serious charges that could lead to a lengthy prison sentence with asset confiscation.
Police officers uncovered a woman attempting to distribute "drops" in a locality of the South Ukrainian community, as reported by the police station No. 4 of Odesa district.
A special investigative team was called to the scene, where they discovered 10 packages containing dangerous psychotropic substances. The police conducted an express test on the contents, which were then sent for expert examination.
The criminal was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigators found that the suspect had established contact with an unidentified supplier via a messenger, receiving pre-packaged psychotropics and distributing them through hiding spots documented on her mobile phone.
The phone containing information pertinent to the investigation was seized.
According to the acting head of the investigative department, Yevhen Haiovyi, the woman has been charged under part 2 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for illegal acquisition and possession with intent to distribute, as well as illegal sale of particularly dangerous psychotropic substances. The court has selected a preventive measure of detention with the right to bail. Under current legislation, the offender faces up to 10 years in prison with asset confiscation.
Police will continue to investigate the network of individuals involved in drug trafficking. The investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Dobroslav District Prosecutor's Office.
