Bus Incident: Assault on Passenger in Odessa
The victim was hospitalized, while law enforcement detained the aggressor, charging him and placing him in custody. He faces up to eight years in prison.
The incident took place recently in a local bus, with witnesses alerting the police. Upon arrival, officers found that a drunken 38-year-old man from Odessa was harassing passengers and behaving aggressively. A 55-year-old passenger made a remark to him, after which the attacker sprayed him with gas and stabbed him multiple times in the shoulder and chest.
Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to the hospital with penetrating and non-penetrating stab wounds. Police arrested the perpetrator and seized the knife and gas canister for forensic analysis.
"We have informed the suspect of charges related to intentional grievous bodily harm, which is life-threatening at the time of infliction. According to part 1 of Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the punishment for this offense can be up to eight years of imprisonment. At our request, the court has chosen to keep the suspect in custody. The preliminary investigation is ongoing, and we will provide a final legal qualification for all actions of the detainee," said Senior Investigator Ilya Pudlinsky from the police department.
