Safety Awareness: Essential Lessons in Schools
At events organized by law enforcement, students receive vital information on safe behavior in schools, on the streets, and in social media. Topics include bullying, cyber safety, mine safety, harmful habits, and the dangers children may face.
Recently, representatives from the National Police and the State Emergency Service visited the Konoplyansk community in the Bereziv District to hold a mobile safety class for students.
Law enforcement officers discussed road safety rules with the children, emphasizing the importance of being vigilant on the streets, crossing roads only at pedestrian crossings, and using reflective items in the dark for visibility.
Additionally, the topic of mine safety was raised, where children were informed about how to identify explosive devices and how to behave if they encounter them. The students watched a video that illustrated that dangerous objects can be both obvious and hidden in everyday items, and in case of discovery, they should not be touched but reported to adults or call the emergency services at 101 or police at 102.
«The students actively participated in the quizzes we prepared. It was gratifying to see how knowledgeable they are about many issues and how they understand the right actions in various life situations,» said juvenile prevention inspector Natalia Ship.
In the Fountains, Southern, Velikodalnytska, and Vygodyanska communities of the Odesa region, juvenile police officers conducted lessons on digital and legal literacy.
«We stressed the importance of using official resources for verifying information and the need to be cautious on social media, avoiding strangers and reporting any suspicious offers to parents,» added senior inspector Yulia Isayeva.
Police reminded teenagers that generally, individuals aged 16 and older are liable for administrative and criminal responsibility, while some specific crimes can incur liability from age 14. Younger offenders are also not overlooked, as corrective measures are applied.
Such preventive measures are being conducted across all districts of Odesa region.
