Mental Health Initiatives in Odesa

01 October 2024

Throughout September, educational institutions under municipal ownership in the Odesa community implemented a series of activities as part of the national mental health program "How are you?".

The activities were designed to enhance the mental well-being of all participants in the educational process.

Specifically, a thematic mental health week titled "Friendship is the Key to a Happy Life!" was organized for students, alongside psychological breaks, emotional exercises, quests titled "A Smile is the Key to Knowledge", and sessions on "How to Overcome Fear During Air Alerts". Students learned techniques to reduce emotional stress and cope with anxiety.

A social video competition titled "Life is My Story", dance flash mobs during the "Olympic Week", trainings, and discussions were also held for schoolchildren.

Teachers participated in roundtable discussions on topics such as "What is Mental Health and How to Maintain It?", meetings with psychologists discussing "Children's Mental Health During War", sessions under the "Safe Space" program, seminars, and lectures. Approaches to supporting students during these challenging times were discussed.

Consultations and practical sessions on supporting children during the war were also provided for parents.

Additionally, general school events took place, where information stands with QR codes for the "How are you?" program were set up in accessible locations.

To support mental health and reduce stress, as well as to develop resilience and self-esteem, school campaigns such as "Mood Smile", "Hugs", and psychological online classes were organized, along with individual consultations for all participants in the educational process.
