The new global university ranking by Times Higher Education 2026 features 22 Ukrainian higher education institutions — five more than last year. Included in the list are also two universities from Odesa. This information was revealed through the World University Rankings 2026 data.
This year, Ukraine has set a record for the number of universities in the Times Higher Education global ranking — 22 universities have secured a place on the list. Odesa National University named after Ilya Mechnikov has been placed in the 1501+ category, while Odesa Polytechnic University has received the status of a "ranking participant".
The best performance among Ukrainian universities was shown by Sumy State University, which entered the 801–1000 category. The remaining universities, including those from Odesa, are positioned in lower tiers of the ranking; however, their presence signifies the gradual development and improvement of the quality of Ukrainian education. Despite the challenging circumstances, universities continue to enhance research activities, expand international cooperation, and attract students from various countries.
