Memory of Tragedy: Innovative Approaches in Education

The Odesa Museum of Genocide «Territory of Memory», with the support of the Odesa Center for Professional Development of Teachers, hosted a panel discussion «Babi Yar – Tragedy of the Second World War».

This event, aimed at social studies teachers in Odesa, focused on significant issues related to Holocaust education and the preservation of memory regarding genocide victims.

The discussion began with a video address from the director of the National Historical and Cultural Reserve «Babi Yar», Roza Tapanova, who emphasized the importance of studying the tragedy of Babi Yar for modern Ukraine and the world.

Pavlo Kozlenko, a philosophy candidate and chairman of the NGO «Odesa Center for Holocaust Research», highlighted the crucial role of teachers in shaping historical consciousness among youth and combating manifestations of intolerance.

The discussion covered practical aspects of working with sensitive historical topics in the classroom. Participants learned from colleagues in Odesa about the implementation of museum pedagogy.

Teachers from Odesa Lyceums No. 56, 62, and the Law Lyceum shared best practices for preserving the memory of World War II victims.

Participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and gain practical advice on integrating Holocaust topics into the educational process under current conditions.
