Solar Power Initiatives in Educational Institutions of Odesa

06 August 2025

Educational institutions in Odesa are adopting alternative power solutions. The full-scale invasion by Russia into Ukraine since early 2022 has damaged parts of the energy infrastructure, leaving many public institutions with unreliable electricity supply.

During blackouts, solar power systems have become a vital solution for ensuring a stable electricity supply.

With the support of the Lithuanian solar energy company UAB Okata, solar power projects are being implemented in Odesa's schools No. 86, 81, 9, 62, 92, and in kindergarten «Yasla-Sadok» No. 195.

This initiative provides educational institutions with complete energy independence, allowing for uninterrupted educational and developmental processes even during power outages.

Moreover, utilizing solar energy significantly reduces budgetary expenses on energy resources.

Given the ongoing attacks on the energy system, the installation of solar power systems is a crucial step towards promoting the use of clean energy sources.

In the Odesa region, UAB Okata is actively developing the solar power installation project, which is the foundation for energy independence and a safer future. The implementation began in August 2023 after signing an agreement with the Environmental Project Management Agency of the Lithuanian Ministry of Environment. The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Odesa and Odesa region is coordinating the project.
