Innovative Approaches to Supporting Children Amidst Conflict

17 July 2025

The ongoing conflict has deeply affected the emotional well-being of all participants in the educational process. In these difficult circumstances, the role of teachers becomes crucial as they provide necessary psychological support to the children.

On July 16, 2025, a presentation of the new educational project titled “Empathy Alphabet” took place at the Odesa Lyceum “European,” aimed at supporting children's mental health in Ukraine.

The primary goal of the “Empathy Alphabet” project is to break down barriers and stereotypes regarding individuals with disabilities, fostering empathy and respect for various forms of human experience among children.

During the seminar, participants had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with educational materials, engage in discussions, and share experiences.

As part of the project, teachers will have access to free online training and will receive an international certification. Educational institutions will also be provided with copies of the “Empathy Alphabet” books and methodological guides for educators.

Key details of the program include: sessions designed for children ages 5 to 10, which can be conducted in a standard classroom format; the program has been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (letter from the State Institution “Institute for Modernization of Education Content” No. 21/08-427 dated 19.05.2025).

The project is being implemented in Odesa by the Chepchynski Family Foundation (Poland) in collaboration with the charity organization Direct Relief (USA), the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Education and Science of the Odesa City Council, and the Public Organization “Women of Ukraine Association ‘Action’.”
