Celebration of the Winners of the IV Ivan Franko Competition

On August 27, the Central Library named after Ivan Franko held a solemn award ceremony for the winners of the IV municipal competition dedicated to the prominent Ukrainian writer.

This event marked the birthday of Ivan Franko, who left a significant impact on Ukrainian literature and culture.

The competition, which brought together writers from various regions of Ukraine, is being held for the fourth time in 2024.

The laureates of the competition include:

in the category of “Journalism”:

- Viacheslav Kushnir (Odesa, “Pages of Newspapers and Facebook”);

- Eduard Amchislavsky (New York, “Actors, Cinema, Odesa…”);

in the category of “Prose”:

- Volodymyr Shevchenko-Vasylenko (Kremenchuk, “The Boat of Sorrows Floats”);
- Iryna Feofanova (Irpin, “Stranger, Own, Native”);

in the category of “Poetry”:
- Oksana Lozova (Lviv, “Time Does Not Pass”), along with her son Vasyl Lozovyi, who is currently defending Ukraine, wrote the collection “We Are!”;

- Yuriy Ostrovershenko (Vradievka, collection of poems “Whip”);

in the category of “Promotion of Ivan Franko’s Work”:
- Denys Rudyi (Odesa, second prize, script for the literary-musical concert “Withered Leaves”),
- Olesya Franko (Kalush, first prize, local history excursion “Franko Town”).

A special award from the library was given to Vasyl Dobryansky, a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine and author of historical and detective novels.

The director of the Centralized Library System for Adults, Natalia Klykova, received a certificate of honor from the Odesa District Council.

At the end of the event, participants enjoyed performances by students and teachers of the Odesa Art School No. 1 named after Hilels and literary award laureate Svitlana Lukina.

On Ivan Franko's birthday, library staff and fans of the writer's work laid flowers at his monument.

The competition was established in 2021 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence and the 165th anniversary of the birth of the great Ukrainian writer, philosopher, and public figure I. Franko.
