Children's Contest: The Enchanted World of Gnomes

26 October 2024

Odessa and Wroclaw are recognized as UNESCO literary cities. The city of Wroclaw is famous for its gnomes, with over a thousand sculptures symbolizing various professions and activities. These charming figures can be found in cafes, libraries, pharmacies, and many other places.

On October 25, 2024, the Ukrainian-Polish children's contest «Fairy Tale Heroes of UNESCO Literary Cities: The World of Gnomes» will kick off in Odessa.

Young artists are invited to draw their favorite gnomes and write stories about these wonderful little beings, known in Polish folklore as krasnoludki.

Drawings in A3 and A4 formats and stories up to 5000 characters will be accepted from October 25 to November 25, 2024, via email: igо189188@gmail.com.

All entries will be showcased on the contest's page.

The jury from Odessa and Wroclaw will select the best works and award the winners. All submissions will be part of an exhibition, and the stories will be published in a book about gnomes to be presented in both Odessa and Wroclaw.

This children's contest aims to strengthen cultural connections between Odessa and Wroclaw.

Organizers: The Centralized Library System for Children of Odessa (Children's Library No. 45) and the Odessa Section of Children's Writers of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.
