Celebrating Jazz: A Tribute Evening for Olena Shevchenko
On November 8, 2024, the UNION International Cultural Center hosted a special evening celebrating the anniversary of Olena Shevchenko, the host of international jazz festivals, titled “The World of Jazz and Beyond.”
For her long-standing efforts and significant contributions to culture, Olena Shevchenko was awarded a valuable gift from the Mayor of Odessa and received a Letter of Appreciation from the Department of Culture of the Odessa City Council.
As a musicologist and instructor at the Arts College, she is recognized for her expertise in jazz history and for founding the VKO Jazz Club. She is affectionately referred to as the “Queen of Jazz.”
During the evening, her students and colleagues showcased vibrant jazz performances, featuring talented young musicians from Art Schools No. 1, 3, and 4.
The creative evening concluded with a traditional jam session, highlighting the celebratory atmosphere.
